Emergent Works pioneers solutions to combat mass incarceration by empowering black and brown individuals with technical education and skills-based training. Led by Executive Director Army Armstead, a former mentee and graduate of the program, we bridge the technology and education gap through innovative programs like 1:1 Virtual Mentorship and Bigger Than The Block youth initiative. Our impact extends beyond skill-building; we develop groundbreaking apps like the Bail Fund App, addressing systemic issues. Our approach, blending mentorship and industry-leading workshops, creates pathways to success for marginalized communities, making us a catalyst for change in the fight against mass incarceration.

When I was finally released from my 9.5 year prison sentence, many employers would not hire me. I knew I wanted to become a software engineer but I needed extra help. The dedication, time, resources, equipment, emotional support and financial support from Emergent Works is the biggest reason I was able to see this through. Today I can proudly say I am a thriving Software Engineer.
